Pirate Comeback Falls Short

The Red Sox opened walk, single and double and scored three in the top of the first.  An opening walk in the second scored to make the score 4-0.  The Pirates went three up, three down in the first two innings before, in the third, David Stierle reached on an error and, after a strike out, Charlie Gabriel singled.  But David was caught off second after a fly out to center for the third out.

The Pirates scored in the fourth when Bobby Blair reached on an error and Leo Brown drove him in with a single and the Pirates took a 6-5 lead with five in the fifth.  David Stierle and Brian Hooper singled and advanced when Charlie reached on an error.  Jose Cubero drove in two with a double.  Scotty Irish walked and Charlie, Jose and Scotty all scored as the Red Sox kicked the ball around.

The Red Sox took the lead again with two in the sixth but the Pirates fought back to tie it at six.  David Stierle reached on catcher's interference, went to second on a passed ball, stole third and scored on a wild pitch.

But the Red Sox scored three in the seventh and this time the Pirates could not answer and the victory went to the Sox 9-6.
