Orioles, Rain Pound Pirates

A lead-off triple by the Orioles against an ailing John Denny and a short-handed Pirate team was followed by ten more hits, including two doubles and a home run; a couple of errors; and walk resulting in a ten run first inning, Thursday night at memorial.  Three Pirate hits by Jose Cubero, Brent Bonte and Dustin Stover) in the bottom of the inning resulted in just a single run.

The Orioles added three more runs in the second, on a walk, hit by pitch, double and a pair of singles, all after two were out to make the score 13-1, which score held up to the top of the fifth.  The Pirates had two on in the fourth on a single by Jose and Juan Ortiz being a hit by a pitch.

As Brent was warming up to face the Orioles in the fifth (Leo had tossed a couple innings in relief of John who was unable to continue) the lightening and rain which had been threatening all game long arrived.  The game was called as an Oriole victory.  The Orioles improved to 16-2 and the Pirates fell to 10-6.
