We next play tomorrow night against the Dodgers at Germantown at 7 pm. We will wear our gold and gray uniform.  Bobby will take the hill.

Great, great job Dustin on the complete game win yesterday.  I'm sorry that my antics overshadowed the game.  Thank goodness I got out of the way so you could get after the Jets.  Great job!

Guys -

According to all my emails and paper schedules we play at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday!
So let's be ready to take on the Jets Sunday June 29th at 4:30 p.m. at Memorial Park in Jeffersonville.  We will wear WHITES!
As a reminder to all.  As the Manager of this bunch.  I determine when I fill out the line-up (and take full responsibility) who I put where and when.  I also make the changes to our defense during the game.  I only asked that you be ready, at all times, to go to the spot I assign and give it you're all to play that position.  Thank you.
I'm not sure what happened.  We've now given up 27 runs and scored 3 in the past two games.  And people want to know why we don't play more games against the 38+ division or why we're not in that division.  My answer would be unless we can hit better, field better and get dominate pitching we're probably in the right division for us!
It's no fun losing!  Actually, I don't mind losing if we give the other team a battle, but when we get our heads bashed in - it ain't no fun!  We all want to win!  I'm not pointing any fingers and neither should anyone else.  This is suppose to be a team.  We win as a team, we lose as a team and sometimes we tie as a team (I really hate ties)!
Let's shake these loses off and move on.  Try focusing on how we can get guys on base and score more runs.  Too, lets get better on defense.  It was only eight games ago, I was hearing how we had a good little team and now I'm hearing grumbling about this and that.  We do have a good team and we need to play as a team.  There is no "I" in team!

Well boys,

That was a very poor performance by us!  I want to apologize to John S, Charlie and Rich for not getting you guys an AB.  Never calculated a run rule in the planning of my line-up.  I will try to make up to you the best that I can.

Again, David, sorry you had to take the beating.  You were our sacrificial lamb.  We'll get another chance at those guys later in season.

Have to shake off that ugliness and now get ready for the Birds!  We play Thursday night at Germantown - 7:00 pm wear the gold!  Jose' will take the ball.  Let's see if we can clip their wings.

It will take more bats and less kicking the ball around to get wins!  See you Thursday.

Great job on the mound - John Denney.  Had a rough first inning but settle down and pitched a quality start. Glad the Bucs were able to help get you the win.

Sunday, June 22nd at 1:00 pm we play the Thunder at Clarksville.  We will wear our Whites.

This will be the start of our first round against the younger division.  We'll now face a little better pitching and we're going to need to bring our A game!
David Porta will have the hill on Sunday.

Let's go get another win!

Well Boys,

That game was an ugly WIN!  But they say a win is a win.  So we'll take that and move on.  Fortunately, the sticks were working when we needed them but our stellar base running and defense was a little lackluster.

The next game is Thursday night June 19th against the Wolves at 7:00 pm at Germantown.  Let's don't be Dancing with the Wolves, let's get r done!  John Denney will take the hill for the start.

See you Thursday night.

Pirates Top Colonels

Led by the pitching of Brent Bonte and John Denney, the Pirates defeated the Colonels 12 - 7 Friday night at Germantown.

After Brent struck out the first Colonel batter, a double play after a single (Dustin Stover [ss] to Rich Mills [2b] to Leo Brown [1b]) closed out the top of the first.  The Pirates wasted no time scoring as John Garcia singled, stole second and scored on Jose Cubero's double.  Jose stole third and scored on Leo's RBI ground out.  With the bases empty, Mark Ferguson singled, Dustin reached on an error, Bobby Blair doubled and John D, singled to give the Pirates a 5-0 lead after one.

The Colonels got on the board in the second.  A single, walk, fielder's choice and ground out made the score 5-1.  In the bottom. Dave Porta's single went for naught.

The Colonels cut into the lead in the third.  A lead-off hit batter on an 0-2 count, pop out, walk and double produced a run.  After a walk loaded the bases, a single plated two and the Pirates' lead was cut to one.  That score continued in to the fourth as Leo was called out at the plate on a bad call.

A Colonel base running error in the fourth resulted in an inning ending double play after a one out HPB.

The Pirates then took control.  John Denney led off with a single and stole second!  Then after two outs, the Pirates put together a rally.  Dave Porta reached on an error; Brian Hooper walked; Rich Mills, John G., Jose all had RBI singles; Mark reached on an error; and Dustin doubled (2 RBI) for a 12-4 margin.

In the fifth, the Colonels answered with two runs and left the bases loaded on a double, three singles and a hit batter.  David Stierle's single produced no runs for the Pirates.

In the sixth, the Colonels scored an unearned run in the fifth which the Pirates could not match as John G. was stranded at third after a single and pair of stolen bases.

John D. shut down the Colonels in the seventh, closing the game the way Brent had started it, with a strike out.  Brent got the win

PIRATES IMPROVE TO 2-1

The visiting Pirates struck early against the Colonels Sunday afternoon at Clarksville.  In the first, John Garcia, Mark Ferguson, Dustin Stover and Chris Gregory singled; John Denney walked; Brent Bonte reached on an error; with John G., Mark, Dustin and Chris scoring for a 4-0 Pirates' lead.  Bobby Blair faced the minimum in the bottom of the first when he picked off a Colonel runner who had walked.

The Pirates scored six in the second, all after the first two Pirates were retied.  John G. doubled; Jose Cubero singled; Mark reached on an error; Brent singled; Jackson Nave, Chris and John D. walked; and Brent singled to drive in two.  Bobby added a single before the Colonels were able to retire the side.

A half inning later, the Colonels were able to advance a runner to second for the first time on a walk and a single.

Neither team scored in the third (John G. walked for the Pirates).

Dustin opened the fourth with a double and scored on Chris' triple.  John D. drove him in with a single.  The Pirates added three more to make make score 14 - 0 on a single by Brent; a walk to Bobby; Bill Keeling reaching on an error; and a single by David Stierle.  The Colonels managed only a lone runner in the fourth on a walk.

In the fifth, Jose's triple scored John G. with Jose scoring on Mark's sacrifice fly.  The Colonels pushed their second runner of the game to second base on a pair of walks but they failed to put a man across the plate as the Pirates posted their second straight complete game run rule victory, this time with Bobby picking up the win.

Guys -

I was asked to remind our team that that the home team gets the third place dugouts.  No matter who gets there first - the HOME team gets the third base side. Except if you play the Colonels at Shawnee then they get the first base side always and forever!

That is all for now.

Way to go Pirates!  Huge win!

I'm sorry I was not able to get more at-bats and get more guys time in the field, but when you look up after 2 innings and your up 10 to zip - you do the best you can.

Great job Bobby with a complete game win!  The sticks were alive, lots of extra base hits.  Lets keep it going and keep the W's coming.

Folks, our next game is Friday night June 13th (anyone superstitious).  I'm calling it "Date Night at the Ballpark"!  We will take on the Colonels at Germantown.  Game time is 7:00 p.m.  Brent has the start.  We'll don the Gold top and Gray pants!

Bring your best babe, and we may be able to dispense of our opponent so you can still make it to dinner and a movie!  Or we can hang out and enjoy beers and (tell lies) in the parking lot after the game.

Again, great job yesterday.  See you Friday!

Stierle, Stierle, Stierle he's our man, when Leo can't David Stierle can!  I move that we strip the managers position from current manager to elect David Stierle "the man"!

All those in favor?

Way to go Pirates! A beat down at Germantown! 12-0! When was the last time we blanked a team?  Well done to all who we're able to make it last night. Great job Jose' on the hill.  Heard there was stellar defense and hits all around.  Just wished I'd been there. But of course I might not had the same results, who knows.  David, David, David...

Next game is Sunday at Clarksville at 4:30 pm against the Colonels.  We will begin wearing are white(s) uniform starting this Sunday and the gold/grays on week night games. So remember this Sunday white pants and white top. Black hat always.

Bobby will start against the Colonels and Brent will be relief.  Is there anyone who will not be there Sunday?  Please let me (I mean) David know!

Again, great job guys. Let's go get another win on this Sunday. See you at Clarksville.

Grays Rebound in Game Two Re-match

Smarting from a Game One melt down, the Grays had to wait only two days to get well.

It took the home-standing Grays three innings to get started, but when they got started, they almost didn't stop.  With the score 0-0, John Denny and Rich Mills led off the inning with a pair of singles.  They were joined on the bases by Charlie Gabriel who walked.  David Stierle advanced the runners ninety feet driving in John with a single.  John Garcia, Jose Cubero and Mark Ferguson kept things going with RBI singles.  Dustin Stover grounded into a fielder's choice which produced the fifth run.  Bobby Blair added a single.  After the second out John D. had his second single of the inning and Rich Mills reached for the second time on a walk.  After three, the Grays led 8-0.

In the fourth after David walked, John G. reached on a fielder's choice and then moved to second on Jose's single.  Mark Ferguson then doubled down the left field line drving in both John and Jose for a 10-0 lead which the Grays carried into the fifth.

In the fifth, Chris Gregory walked and advanced to second on a ground out.  With two outs, Charlie Gabriel scored Chris with a single and went to second on a single by David and scored the twelfth run on John G.'s long single for a 12-0 run rule win.

The key defensive stand came in the top of the fourth.  After an error by David at short and John G. in left put runners on first and second with no outs, a hard ground ball to Bobby at third resulted in a 5 unassisted-3 double play,  A popup to Rich at second ended the threat.  The only other time the Senators managed to put two runners on was in the first.  After the lead-off man popped out to Jose in front of the mound, a walk and a wild pitch put a runner on second.  Jose walked his second (and last) batter after a fly out to Chris in center.  Another wild pitch (also Jose's last) put two in scoring position but a strike out ended the inning.  A second inning two out double was the only other runner to reach second.

Jose threw a three hit, five inning, complete game shut-out.

The Grays improved to 1-1.

Grays blow big lead in opener

The Louisville Grays lost the season opener against the Senators after blowing a six run lead entering the bottom of the last inning.

The Grays scored four in the top of the first.  John Garcia walked and stole second and went to third as Jose Cubero reached on an error.  Mark Ferguson drove John in with a single and advanced Jose to second.  After Jose stole third and John Denney was hit by a pitch and stole second, both scored as Brent Bonte reached on the Senators' second  error of the inning.

In the second, the Grays  added a run  as Dave Porta and Chris Gregory doubled back to back.

In the bottom of the second, four Senator singles cut the lead to 5-2.

The score remained 5-2 until the bottom of the fifth when a lead-off walk and a pair of singles produced a run and a 5-3 score.

In the sixth, three consecutive singles cut the Grays' lead to 5-4.

In the seventh, the Grays plated two unearned runs on two Senator errors and played add-on in the eighth and last inning scoring three on a single by Jose, a walk to Mark, and singles by John D. and Bill Keeling and taking a 10-4 lead.

But in the bottom of the eighth after there were two outs and runners on second and third, EIGHT straight singles scored seven runs and let the Senators escape with an 11-10 win.
