PIRATES IMPROVE TO 2-1

The visiting Pirates struck early against the Colonels Sunday afternoon at Clarksville.  In the first, John Garcia, Mark Ferguson, Dustin Stover and Chris Gregory singled; John Denney walked; Brent Bonte reached on an error; with John G., Mark, Dustin and Chris scoring for a 4-0 Pirates' lead.  Bobby Blair faced the minimum in the bottom of the first when he picked off a Colonel runner who had walked.

The Pirates scored six in the second, all after the first two Pirates were retied.  John G. doubled; Jose Cubero singled; Mark reached on an error; Brent singled; Jackson Nave, Chris and John D. walked; and Brent singled to drive in two.  Bobby added a single before the Colonels were able to retire the side.

A half inning later, the Colonels were able to advance a runner to second for the first time on a walk and a single.

Neither team scored in the third (John G. walked for the Pirates).

Dustin opened the fourth with a double and scored on Chris' triple.  John D. drove him in with a single.  The Pirates added three more to make make score 14 - 0 on a single by Brent; a walk to Bobby; Bill Keeling reaching on an error; and a single by David Stierle.  The Colonels managed only a lone runner in the fourth on a walk.

In the fifth, Jose's triple scored John G. with Jose scoring on Mark's sacrifice fly.  The Colonels pushed their second runner of the game to second base on a pair of walks but they failed to put a man across the plate as the Pirates posted their second straight complete game run rule victory, this time with Bobby picking up the win.
