Triple Play Sparks Pirates Win

With the score tied 1-1 in the bottom of the second, the Thunder loaded the bases against Bobby Blair with three walks.  But the next Thunder batter grounded the ball to Dustin Stover at short.  Dustin flipped to David Stierle at second who turned the double play to Jackson Nave at first, with the runner on third scoring to take a 2-1 lead.  But the runner from second tried to catch the Pirates napping and was thrown out at the plate, Jackson to Scotty Irish.

The Pirates had taken a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a one out walk by Brian Hooper after a 0-2 count.  Brian went to second on a passed ball, was sacrificed to third by Juan Ortiz, and scored when Jackson reached on an error.  Dustin also singled in the inning.  The Thunder tied the game in the bottom of the first on a pair of singles.

In the top of the third, Chris Gregory led off with a walk and stole second and third and scored on Brian Hooper's single.  After an out, Jackson singled moving Brian to second.  Brain scored when Dustin reached on an error and Jackson advanced to third. Dustin stole second and on John Denney's RBI single (driving in Jackson) went to third and scored on Brent Bonte's fielder choice.

The Thunder put four men on in the third.  The first batter reached on a walk but was thrown out trying to steal, Scotty to David.  After a strike out, the Thunder loaded the bases with a single, walk and hit batter before a pop out to David at second left the bases full.  The score at the end on the third was 5-2.

In the fourth, the Pirates scored their sixth run when Leo Brown led off with a single, stole second, and scored when Brian reached on an error.  The Thunder failed to score but left the bases loaded again.

The Thunder cut the lead to 6-3 in the fifth with a run off of Jackson in relief of Bobby-  a lead off single and a stolen base putting the runner in scoring position for a one out RBI single.

The Pirates could not plate Scotty after his two out single in the sixth, but the Thunder struck for three runs to tie the game.  A walk and sacrifice put a Thunder runner on second.  A single, another walk and a wild pitch scored one. and two more singles and a walk tied the game and left the bases loaded.  But a one hop ground ball to Brent at third resulted in a 5-4-3 double play (Brent to Scotty to Jackson) to end the threat.

In the seventh, the Pirates regained the lead.  Brian was hit by a pitch and Juan singled and both scored on Jackson's double into the gap in left center.  The Thunder could manage only a two out walk.

The Pirates made in 10-6 in the eighth.  After an out, Leo reached on an error and moved to third on Scotty's double.  Leo scored and Scotty went to third on Charlie Gabriel's ground out and Scotty scored on David Stierle's single.  A one out single failed to produce a run against Brent in the bottom of the eighth with the game ending on a strike out with Jackson getting the win.
